Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, is attending a special ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the Hemus highway in northern Bulgaria.

The sector of the long-awaited highway between the capital Sofia with the Black Sea city of Varna will connect the capital's beltway and the road junction on the highway near the village of Yana.

Financing for the 9-km road is provided by the EU operational program Transport 2007 – 2013 with 80% of the funding and the remaining 20% coming from the State budget. The investment amount is estimated at nearly BGN 48 M.

The project includes reconstruction of the existing roads, which are crossing the highway, and building of new bridges, overpasses and one underpass.

The ceremony will be also attended by Bulgaria's newly-appointed Minister of Regional Policy and Public Works, Lilyana Pavlova and by Transport Minister, Ivaylo Moskovski.
