Nurgyul Salimova of Bulgaria grabbed the Girls Under 8 title at the European Youth Chess Championship that took place at Bulgaria's Albena sea resort.
The Bulgarian girl won 8 out of the possible total of nine points to secure the overall victory. A total of 1054 chess players from 48 countries participated in the championship, the oldest among them aged 18, the Dnevnik daily informs.
Expectedly, Bulgaria's young chess hopefuls pulled of a formidable performance, with 6 players reaching top 10 in their respective age groups.
International Master Kiprian Berbatov, Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov's cousin, could only reach the 19th place among the boys under 16.
