NATO will Deploy Patriot Air Defense Systems in Ukraine
NATO has announced plans to send Patriot air defense systems to the embattled nation
The end of the civil war in Libya should be declared officially Thursday, September 1 in Paris, during the Friends of Libya international conference, stated Polish PM Donald Tusk Tuesday.
Thursday representatives of 60 countries, including Poland, NATO members who have participated in the air strikes, such as France and Italy, and countries like Russia, China and Brazil will meet to discuss the reconstruction of Libya after the ousting of longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi.
"Declaring the end of the war in Libya on September 1 will be a good step that is set to reconfirm or will to help," stated Polish PM Tusk after meeting European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in Brussels.
In spite of being a NATO member, Poland refused to take part in the Alliance's air operation in the aid of Libyan anti-Gaddafi rebels, united under the so-called National Transitional Council.
NATO has stated that rebels are in control of the greater part of Libya's territory, but that it will continue air strikes as long as Gaddafi supporters "continue threatening the civil population."
In view of that, Tusk's proposal is not very likely to be adopted Thursday, as fighting is still going on, especially around Col Gaddafi's natal city of Sirte.
