Hundreds of protesters are demanding answers to the causes of the catastrophic flooding that has killed thousands of people and left tens of thousands homeless
Libyan fugitive dictator Muammar Gaddafi's family members who were granted refuge in Algeria Monday may have already left the country in an unknown direction, a Libyan rebel spokesman has revealed.
"Algeria told us it has granted the Gaddafi family the opportunity to safely move to a third country," Mahmoud Shammam, the information minister in the new Libyan Transitional National Government, has told Sky News, as cited by the Russian ITAR-TASS.
The Transitional National Government cannot verify this information, Shammam has pointed out.
Colonel Gaddafi's wife Safia, daughter Aisha and sons Muhammad and Hannibal crossed the border between Libya and Algeria early on Monday. They were all granted refuge in the country, which enraged the new Libyan government.
Rebels have declared the move an "act of aggression against the Libyan people" and said they would use all legal means to compel them to return.
Algeria is yet to recognize the Transitional National Government as Libya's legitimate authority.
