Bulgaria's Parliament Chair 'Proclaims' End of Gaddafi, Totalitarianism
The development of the Libya events over the last couple of days has shown that totalitarian and authoritarian regimes have no place in the 21st century, Bulgaria's Parliamentary Chair Tsetska Tsacheva reckons.
"History is merciless and it has its own logic," Tsacheva said while attending a comemmoration ceremony at a memorial plate dedicated to the victims of communism on Tuesday.
Speaking on the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism, Tsacheva pointed out that "a totalitarian regime in North Africa has fallen just hours ago,"
"We all know what is happening in the Middle East and Libya's other neighboring countries. We have gathered here to honor people who have built Bulgaria, but have fallen victims to political and ideological clashes," she stated.
The European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism also known as the is observed on August 23 and was was designated by the European Parliament in 2008/2009 as "a Europe-wide Day of Remembrance for the victims of all totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, to be commemorated with dignity and impartiality."
