Manchester United's striker Dimitar Berbatov is not on Bulgaria's list for the Euro 2012 qualifier against England in spite of UK tabloid reports that head coach Lothar Matthaeus is trying to get him to rejoin the team.
Matthaeus announced Monday the names of 30 players from whom he will be choosing his team for the September 2 qualifier against England in Sofia but Berbatov is not among them.
This disproves last week's reports of The Mirror that England manager Fabio Capello, who has suffered pressure at home, had personally heard that the Bulgarian coach Matthaeus was confident he would get Berbatov to play for Bulgaria once again.
Dimitar Berbatov officially quit the Bulgarian national football team in May 2010 to make room for younger players and to concentrate on his work with Manchester United.
England needs to win the September game against Bulgaria to get better chances at qualifying as the group winner. Bulgaria is almost certain to drop out of the race, but still has theoretical chances.
