Mustafa Abdel-Jalil, Chairman of the rebel National Transitional Council (NTC), has said that the whereabouts of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi are still unknown.

The news was reported by the al-Arabiya TV, as cited by BBC.

The news channel also quoted TNC's chair as saying no negotiations were underway between the rebel leadership and the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, one of the leader's sons currently held by the rebels.

The announcement countered an earlier statement of an ICC official that talks were in progress with the rebels on transferring Saif al-Islam to the war crimes court.

According to a report of RIA Novosti, Jalil said earlier that Gaddafi's days were numbered and the time had come for the Libyan leader to surrender power.

He also warned that Gaddafi "doesn't care about Libya or its people."

"He can make insane decisions in his last moments and we have to be fully prepared for such scenarios. He can burn down Tripoli, or even gas his own people."

In the meantime it was reported that Gaddafi's fourth eldest son, al-Mutasim, was staying at the Bab al-Azizia complex in Tripoli.

Earlier Monday, the Dubai-based TV channel informed that the tanks of the Gaddafi-loyal forces had taken up position at the entrance of the complex.
