Representatives of the initiative committee that endorses Bulgaria's ex-EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva for President expressed their certainty she would defeat every runner the ruling centrist-right GERB comes up with.
Kuneva's goal is to enter the upcoming elections' second tour, members of her initiative committee revealed as they registered the necessary documents for her presidential bid in the country's Central Electoral Commission on the first day it started accepting them.
"I strongly hope that GERB's candidate is (Prime Minister) Boyko Borisov and the she defeats him," Daniel Valchev, former Bulgarian educational Minister during the three-way government (2005-2009), declared, as cited by News.bg.
Kuneva would win even against the most popular member of GERB's government, Regional Development Minister Rosen Plevneliev, Borislav Tsekov, former MP from the ex-Bulgarian Tsar's National Movement for Stability and Prosperity, stated.
Kuneva's team attempted to submit its documents ten days ago, when CEC started accepting bids for the local elections.
The independent presidential candidate had her documents returned with the explanation that the registration for the head-of-state vote starts on August 05.
The committee behind Kuneva's nomination appealed CEC's decision, complaining that the body was only authorized to set a registration deadline, not an opening date, but the plea was rejected by the Supreme Administrative Court.
