Bulgaria's top male tennis player, Grigor Dimitrov, achieved a difficult win in the first round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington DC.
The tournament is an ATP World Tour 500 event with a prize fund of USD 17 M.
Dimitrov won against the Qualifier Tim Smyczek from the US with 4:6, 7:6 (3), 7:6 (3), gaining an additional 20 points for the ATP ranking and USD 7 585.
Smyczek, 227th in the ATP ranking won the first set, but Dimitrov was able to overturn the outcome later.
In the second round the Bulgaria tennis star will face Michael Llodra from France.
