The explosions which rocked the government headquarters in Norway's capital Oslo Friday afternoon targeted the country's largest tabloid VG, according to reports.

At least 8 people have been injured in the blasts in Oslo, smashing the windows of the 17-storey government building, where the office of Norway's Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg is also located.

Norwegian news agency NTB has announced that Norway's Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg is safe.

According to local media, the blasts were directed against the VG, whose office is in the same building.

The cause of the blast, which has shattered the windows of the government building in Oslo, is still unknown, international news agencies report. The Norwegian authorities have refused to provide initial comments.
