Five men aged 25-44 have been detained for 72 hours in Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Burgas on suspicion of car insurance fraud.

The men staged collisions and auto thefts in order to wrench insurance premiums from various companies.

The police have so far tracked down four such cases.

The leader of the group reportedly assisted the return of the vehicles to their owners and received the ransoms.

If the owner refused to pay, the cars were dismantled into parts to be sold off separately to auto morgues.
