The National Council of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, is convening Saturday to decide on their nomination for the person to run for President.

The main contenders are said to be the former Foreign Affairs Minister and now Member of the European Parliament, Ivaylo Kalfin, and the BSP Member of the Parliament, Yanaki Stoilov.

The local BSP branches came up with a total of 40 nominations, which were later reduced to 10.

The debates are expected to be heated and controversial since the criteria for the nomination are murky. The vote is planned to be secret.

According to Darik radio's own sources it is possible the Socialists will postpone the decision for the 23rd of July, which is the date of their Congress and even for September.
