The Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office has charged Russian businessman, Alexander Beredin, with kidnapping.
Beredin, 46, is to remain behind bars for 72 hours and the Prosecutor's Office is deciding if they should ask the Court for permanent detention, according to a Friday publication of the Bulgarian daily Trud (Labor).
Miss Bulgaria 2009 Antonia Petrova, 26, was abducted by Beredin, her ex boyfriend, Tuesday night from a restaurant in Sofia's Boyana Quarter where she was having dinner with Adrian Rachev, aka the Romanian, a popular rap singer.
Beredin literally pulled Petrova out of the restaurant around 8 pm, and forced her into his car.
She was discovered by the police three hours later after they were alerted by the girl's parents, who received a call from the victim. The police blocked Sofia's major streets. Beredin's white Mercedes was pulled over at the intersection of central Sofia boulevards Alexander Stamboliyski and Maria Luisa. Miss Bulgaria 2009 was wrapped in a blanket and had bruises on her body.
Beredin told the police Petrova got in his car voluntarily.
According to Trud, Petrova had said before investigators that the ex boyfriend shoved her into the SUV by force and thrashed her. He took her purse, turned off her cellphones, and tore off her shirt, leaving her naked from the waste up. The former Miss Bulgaria further reported the Russian had been stalking her and harassing her for months.
Petrova won the Miss Bulgaria title in 2009 when the competition was very controversial because the winner was determined by TV viewers through a SMS Text vote for the first and only time in the history of the beauty pageant.
