Bulgaria: Deadline Passes for Bulgarian Farmers' E. Coli Compensation Claims File photo

Monday marks the deadline for compensation claims on behalf of Bulgarian farmers harmed by the massive hysteria caused by the ongoing dangerous e. coli epidemic in Europe.

So far, just 38 of the over 160 Bulgarian producers eligible for compensation have filed their documents in the country's Paying Agency, the Bulgarian National Radio has pointed out.

EU's EUR 300 M e. coli compensation package aims at helping vegetable growers who have suffered major financial losses due to the dangerous outbreak that has already killed over 50 and sickened more than 4000 in Europe and the US.

The European Union has already banned the import of Egyptian fenugreek and has removed all imported quantities from its market due to the ongoing outbrake, which is deemed highly probable to have originated from the product.
