Wise books say: when troubles come, climb up high and wait for the storm to pass. This is exactly what Ahmed Dogan did two years ago.

"The next government will not be clearly defined, with no clear program... Most probably this will be an anti-crisis government, with a short lifetime - one or two years, for example," Dogan said on the night of the elections back in the summer of 2009.

The very same night Bulgarians' hype over the victory of new Prime Minister Boyko Borisov came close to religious fervor and exceeded even the craze that former king Simeon Saxe-Coburg brought with his much expected and jubilant return to the country in 2001.

Bulgarians have an inclination for forget the past. But they don't usually forget promises for a better life.

Exactly two years after the latest elections voters are likely to punish Borisov for the very same reasons that they punished Saxe-Coburg in 2005 - poor health-care system, low pensions and failure to live up to his promise to uproot corruption, combined with a few controversial deals and suspicions of serving shady interests.

Dogan had forecast that two years ago. In fact he had hatched the plot himself - let the inexperienced center-right government come to power and inherit the deplorable state that the three-way coalition turned Bulgaria into, exacerbated by the repercussions of the global financial crisis. Making the return of the previous rulers possible even if not spectacular.

The new center-right government of Bulgaria was elected on an anti-corruption mandate in July and on the promise to bring to justice such big fish as Ahmed Dogan. Nothing of the sort has happened.

Small wonder I hear Dogan has offered Borisov a shoulder to lean on in the upcoming vote in the autumn...
