Bulgaria's Retail Trade Turnover Crawls Up in May 2011

Bulgaria's retail trade turnover (excluding motor vehicles) registered a minor growth in May 2011 on both annual and month basis.

According to latest data of the National Statistical Institute, in May 2011 the turnover in Retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles at constant prices grew by 0.4% compared to April 2011.

In May 2011 the working day adjusted turnover in retail trade increased by 1.6% in comparison with the same month of the previous year.

In May the turnover compared to the previous month grew in four economic activities: the sale of pharmaceutical and medical products – by 3.2%; the sale of fuel – by 1.1%; the sale of computers and software – by 1%, and household equipment and appliances – by 0.1%.

A reduction was observed in the retail sale of textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods by 1.6% and in the 'Retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco' by 0.4%.

On an annual basis, the turnover in May 2011 compared to the same month of 2010 increased in the sale of pharmaceutical and medical products by 7.2%, in the sale of fuel by 7.0% and in the sale of computers and software by 2.0%.

A decline was registered in the retail sale of textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods by 3.8%, in the retail sale of household equipment and appliances by 2.3% and in the retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco by 1.8%.
