Almost 40% of Bulgarians are now overweight, according to a study conducted by the MBMD research agency.

38% percent of the Balkan country's urban population aged between 14 and 60 are overweight, the study shows, according to the bTV private channel.

Bulgaria's women are significantly more elegant than men - just 25% are above the norm, while half of the Bulgarian male citizens are overweight.

As many as 51% of the overweight Bulgarians have admitted their problem does really bother them, which has been commented as a worrying tendency by analysts.

Every third Bulgarian claims that he or she is engaged in sport activities at least 4 hours weekly. 86% find the lack of appropriate sport facilities as the main reason for not exercising more often, even though many point out the lack of free time as a significant obstacle, too.
