Yes, Belogradchik Is Part of Bulgaria!

Letters to the Editor | June 16, 2011, Thursday // 19:30

I can't imagine finding one Bulgarian who hasn't heard of the beautiful and wonderful beaches of Varna and Burgas, Nessebar, St. Vlas and Golden Sands.

Sofia, the capital, would always amaze the young and energetic people. Plovdiv would always keep its status as an important economic, transport, cultural and educational center.

But, have you heard of that little white town called Belogradchik?

I wouldn't be surprised hearing you say 'Where?!'

My dear, I don't know how heaven looks like, but I surely wish it would be like Belogradchik.

This amazing place! Located in the district of Vidin, in the north west of Bulgaria, Belogradchik has so much to offer to those who are proud of Bulgaria!

This wonderful place will remind you that in spite of the many difficulties, Bulgaria is a wonderful place to live in.

I have seen oceans and seas but have never seen an ocean of trees till I visited Belogradchik. It is covered with so many trees, miles upon miles, stretching to mountains, hills, valleys, almost endlessly.

Then, this Supreme Architect chiseled a massive, yet delicate, chain of rocks out of mother earth. One cannot but stand and gaze at those rocks, minutes upon minutes, while getting drifted into one's imagination and lost in the boundless river of thoughts.

'Who am I ?' - is a just question at this place, at this point.

Yet, the spirit even needs some spirits! Magura Winery is the right stop then. Many of us don't know of the art of wine making. Magura Winery is a good place to have the first lesson. But, two warnings for the visitors: the first lesson in wine making would not be your last; and, DON'T drink and drive!

You probably like BBQs. Rabisha lake and Dabravka dam would offer you great place to have your BBQ. You could even take your fresh fish right out of the lake. Moreover, those places are excellent for your children to release all their built up energy. Remember, though, to take your garbage with you. Nature cannot clean up after you!

Among the many historic churches, mosques, synagogues, castles, fortresses, museums and bazaars, you could also 'jump' for a visit to neighboring Romania and Serbia. To have a taste of 'abroad', and really see how wonderful neighbors Bulgaria has.

YES, Belogradchik is Part of Bulgaria! Don't ignore it. It is good for you, good for your children and good for your friends, guests and specially those whom you love.
It is also good for your pocket, since you will be amazed how low prices are in Belogradchik!

See You in Belogradchik,
Xagop Kevorkian
