Military Training can be soon included in Bulgaria's high-school curriculum as an elective, according to Defense Minister, Anyu Angelov.

Angelov took part Tuesday in a public debate of the Armed Forces Bill. Texts of the bill provide for high-school juniors and seniors to take a course in "defense and protection of the homeland and acting in extreme situations," according to a program that would be prepared jointly by the Defense and the Interior Ministers, and approved by the Education Minister.

The Minister pointed out the course will be either elective, either taught in homeroom, stressing that this does not mean the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party is bringing back the Communist's regime high-school military education.

"There would be no training camps, shooting, leaning how to use the Kalashnikov automatic gun. This is not our idea. It contradicts with the idea of voluntary military service," Angelov said, without providing clear details on the form of the training on the grounds consultations with the Education Ministry were pending.
