Bulgaria's far-right, nationalist Ataka party is going to give the ruling GERB one last chance to carry out the reforms promised two years ago.

The statement was made Friday, in an interview for the TV channel Evropa, by the Ataka Member of the Parliament, Hikolay Pehlivanov, saying the nationalists would not allow the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, and the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms, DPS, to rule the country.

Since the July 2009 general elections in Bulgaria, Ataka has been the closest ally of the center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party, securing their majority in the Parliament.

GERB and Ataka, however, had a recent fall-out after 3 Ataka Members of the Parliament, Valentin Nikolov, Ognyan Peychev and Kiril Gumnerov, left the party's parliamentary group several days ago, and nationalist leader, Volen Siderov, accused GERB of paying the three BGN 50 000 each to break party ranks.

On Wednesday, the Parliament refused to appoint Siderov as Chair of the Parliamentary Anti-Corruption Committee and kept at the post the now-former Ataka member, Valentin Nikolov, triggering threats from Siderov he would withdraw support for GERB and back the planned no-confidence vote against the cabinet.

"For two years now – half of the term of the cabinet and the Parliament, we are yet to see reforms. From now on, we will not spare GERB any criticism nor will we accept proposals detrimental to the country. We do not want to bring back BSP and DPS, but we will not stop telling things the way they are. We expect and hope GERB will carry out the reforms they promised. We are giving them a last chance," the Ataka MP declared.
