A museum dedicated to the Jewish culture is to be opened in Bulgaria's capital Sofia, its Mayor, Yordanka Fandakova, announced.

Speaking to students from the Sofia University, Fandakova revealed that the idea for a Jewish museum was born when she was still a Deputy Mayor responsible for education, but the project was put on hold due to the lack of an appropriate building.

However, a building has been found now, she said.

"Building one more museum is never too much," she stated, pointing out that the Serbian capital Belgrade already has a Jewish museum.

Fandakova also clarified that no official demands have been received in the Sofia municipality considering the potential construction of a second mosque in the city, as the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms recently hinted.
