US Considers Dropping Charges Against Julian Assange
The United States is contemplating dropping charges against Julian Assange, as confirmed by President Joe Biden, who stated that he is considering the request
The former spokesperson of the whistle-blowing site Wikileaks, Daniel Domscheit-Berg, stated Thursday, during a discussion at the European Parliament that in the course of the three years he worked with the site, no cases of false or manipulated information have been registered.
Domscheit-Berg was removed last year by Julian Assange on the grounds of being disloyal. His Thursday statement came as a response to a question coming from the Bulgarian Member of the Parliament from the Socialist Party, Evegeni Kirilov, asking if the published American diplomatic cables are authentic.
The topic of the EP discussion, organized by the Liberals, was "The Future of Diplomacy after Wikileaks."
Meanwhile, the official Bulgarian partner of Wikileaks, the site for investigative journalism Bivol.bg published their position, declaring they would continue to break information barriers.
The statement reminds the site is hosted abroad, making it inaccessible to Bulgarian censorship, pointing out the team of the media works on volunteer basis, since the very beginning, motivated only by their moral and professional values.
According to the agreement between Bivol and Wikileaks, announced on April 21, for the publishing of diplomatic cables on Bulgaria and other Balkan countries on the analogue Balkanleaks site, Bivol has full freedom to select what and when to publish, under the condition it provides the original cables and deletes the names of people, who cannot protect themselves from repressions. Financial transactions with the cables are banned and security measures very strict.
The statement has been issued by Bivol in connection with speculations the site purposely publishes cables only dedicated to particular individuals, pointing out the reports provided to them have nearly no information on Bulgaria prior to 2005.
