May 31 is observed each year in Bulgaria and throughout the world as No Tobacco Day to draw global awareness to the widespread prevalence of smoking and its negative health effects.

In order to raise awareness, Bulgarian health authorities will carry out health checks on pregnant women in the park in front of the former "Crystal" restaurant in downtown Sofia. Some 30% of the Bulgarian do not quit the harmful habit even after they get pregnant, the Bulgarian National Radio alarmed Tuesday.

World No Tobacco Day 2010 will draw particular attention to the need to protect women and girls from the harmful effects of tobacco marketing and smoke in accordance with World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
