Deyan Deyanov, the Bulgarian who beheaded 60-year old Jennifer Mills-Westley last Friday, had threatened to "massacre" the mother of his 3-year old daughter in his home country.

Even though Deyanov failed to pay a fine for the threat, the Bulgarian authorities did not stop him from leaving the country and returning to Tenerife, where he had already worked in 2007, The Sun reports.

After having worked briefly in Cyprus and Tenerife in 2007, Deyanov returned to his home town of Ruse in Northeastern Bulgaria, where he started a relationship with an economics student named Nadia, who gave birth to his daughter.

Their relationship lasted just six months, as Nadia was despaired by his drug addiction.

Spanish authorities said on Monday that an arrest warrant had been issued for Deyanov's arrest in Tenerife three days before the attack. A magistrate had ordered that he be detained for psychiatric tests after an incident four months ago, in which he hit a security guard with a rock. Deyanov was subsequently arrested for punching a dog walker and then two months later for smashing a window.

Meanwhile, as details from Deyanov's past emerge, it turns out he is the son of Valentin Deyanov, a well-placed member of Bulgaria’s communist party and a rich businessman who ran a factory  and a lucrative transport company in Ruse.
