In a testament to enduring friendship, this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and China
The Bulgarian Ambassador to the US, Elena Poptodorova and the US Ambassador to Bulgaria, James Warlick, began Monday their diplomatic tour across the US with a visit of the city of Chicago.
Chicago is home of the biggest Bulgarian community in North America.
The news was reported Tuesday by EuroChigago.com, the largest web media portal in Bulgarian in America.
The tour is held under the motto Building Bridges Through Business and is called Ambassadors Road Show.
The 2011 Road Show is the second edition of the initiative to promote American business investments in Bulgaria. The first Ambassadors' Road Show was staged in 2007, shortly after Bulgaria's accession to the EU by then US Ambassador to Bulgaria John Beyrle and Ambassador Poptodorova, during her first term in DC.
The diplomats are accompanied by representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, the Investment Agency, other companies, and the trade attaches of the the two countries.
The Chicago agenda included meetings with representatives of the industrial sector, meeting with the International Trade Association of Greater Chicago, and a visit of the Savage Brothers company.
The first day of the tour ended with a meeting with the Bulgarian community at the St. Sophia Church.
The diplomats were greeted with the traditional bread and salt, with Bulgarian folk dances, songs and poems, preformed by the students from the Bulgarian schools in Chicago.
The venue was overflowing with people and the questions and answers session, both in English and Bulgarian, lasted for over two hours.
Poptodorova informed the participants she had signed in person the diplomas of graduates from the seven Bulgarian schools in Chicago.
Ambassador Warlick pointed out the goal of the tour was not to have investment contracts by the end of the week, but to plant the seeds of interest towards Bulgaria among the American business.
Houston, TX is the next stop of the delegation.
