The list of so-called National Tourist Sites, currently numbering 100, is set to be increased to 150, announced Bulgarian vice-Minister for Tourism Ivo Marinov.

The list of 100 National Tourist Sites was created in 1966 and includes most of Bulgaria's most popular natural formations and cultural and historic destinations, such as some of the more famous mountain peaks, waterfalls, museums and memorials.

Among them are the Rila Monastery, the Shipka Monument, the Musala and Vihren peaks, the St. Alexander Nevsky cathedral.

The proposals for new sites can be submitted with municipal authorities or at the webpage http://potarsi.bulgariatravel.org/ , announced vice-minister Marinov.

The new sites will have to meet a number of criteria, such as relative closeness to other sites from the network and good infrastructure.
