The trend of the index of wholesale prices in Bulgaria to constantly go up since the beginning in 2011 has continued until the second week in March when it reached the record 2.0 before stabilizing.

The data comes from the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Market Places. The 2.0 point is a record-high for Bulgaria index, but after that the curb went down slowly to reach 1.99 points at the end of March.

Compared to March 2010, grocery prices are higher in March 2011, with the largest annual hikes registered for sugar (52%), cooking oil (48%) and flour (49%).

Prices of potatoes, garlic and cabbage were also higher in Mach 2011 while prices of greenhouse cucumbers and eggs went down.

Despite the staggering prices, the Commission's analysis of the price trends for the month of March in the last five years shows that most grocery prices, except those of sugar and milk products, are still below the 2008 levels.
