The campaign of western countries against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is not right, as most of ordinary Libyans support the colonel, according to Bulgarian expat Georgi Ayryanov.

Ayryanov returned to Sofia Saturday and was interviewed by BGNES, explaining he did not come back for fear of his life, but rather because he was forced to stay out of work due to the turmoil in the country. He had been working at the Austrian and Bulgarian embassies in Tripoli.

"What the western countries are doing is not right, it is not good for the people of Libya," commented the Bulgarian expat.

He said that the western media exaggerate perceptions about how vast the opposition to Gaddafi among ordinary Libyans is and that "the larger part of the Libyan people support their leader."

Specifically, Ayryanov dismissed comments in media about "human shields" being used by the regime, arguing that people - including children - are spontaneously flocking to Gaddafi's quarters.

Overall, he expressed disappointment at the situation and hoped it might be swiftly resolved in the interest of ordinary Libyans.
