Libyan television broadcast what they claim was live footage of leader Muammar Gaddafi's son Khamis, who was reported to have died earlier in March.

A man bearing a striking resemblance to Khamis was shown greeting supporters at his father's compound in Tripoli, The Telegraph reported on Tuesday.

According to the TV anchor, the images refuted the reports in the Arab media and on the Internet that Gaddafi's son was killed by an air force pilot who purposefully crashed his jet into the family's Bab al-Aziziyah compound in the Libyan capital.

According to government officials, the reports were part of a deliberate campaign of misinformation by the country's enemies.

Khamis, aged 27, is the sixth son of the Libyan leader and is a commander of the 32nd Brigade against the rebels.
