Special police task force have taken a man out of the building of the Investbank branch in Sliven, footage of the Bulgarian National Television, BNT, showed Thursday at noon.

Currently, there is no official confirmation the man is the assailant. The Bulgarian national Radio, BNR, reports the building is still surrounded by heavy police presence and all policemen remain at their posts. The area continues to be sealed-off for cars, pedestrians and reporters.

It is expected the Chief Secretary of the Interior, Kalin Georgiev, who led the hostage rescue operation in person, and the Chief of the Anti-Terrorist Unit, will give a press conference Thursday afternoon.

About 11:30 am special police entered the bank's building.

Earlier Thursday, in the Parliament, Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, who also went to Sliven overnight, identified the culprit on an unprecedented for Bulgaria bank holdup and hostage crisis, as Hristo Petrov, and appealed to him to surrender.

Petrov is said to have been employed as a security guard, which explains his possession of a weapon.

Experts comment his actions showed he did not want to kill anyone and the shooting which wounded seriously Stancho Stoychev, the bank security, happened by accident.
