Bulgaria does not accept the Russian offer of EUR 6.3 B for the construction of the Belene nuclear power plant by Rosatom's subsidiary Atomstroyexport, Economy and Energy Minister Traicho Traikov declared.

Traikov responded briefly to statements made in Sofia earlier on Wednesday by senior Rosatom and Atomstroyexport executives that EUR 6.3 B is the final price demanded by the Russian side for the Belene NPP, and that Rosatom will consider the project practically dead if the respective state companies do not sign a new agreement by the end of March.

"There is no agreement for this price. They offer this price and we don't agree with it; therefore, we haven't reached an agreement. The Bulgarian side has other views regarding the price of the Belene NPP, and we have shared them with our Russian partners. They are unyielding from their offer so the negotiations are continuing," Traikov has commented as cited by BGNES.

The price of EUR 6.298 B for the construction of the 2000-MW Belene NPP by Atomstroyexport was set in a non-binding memorandum signed in Sofia on November 30, 2010, in the presence of Rosatom CEO Sergey Kirienko and Economy Minister Traicho Traikov. A final agreement on the construction price of the plant was supposed to emerge in 4-5 months but talks have failed to produce the desired result.
