Protest Erupts in Sofia Demanding Interior Minister's Resignation
A protest unfolded in front of the Interior Ministry headquarters in Sofia on Monday, as citizens demanded the resignation of outgoing Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov
Bulgaria's Unit for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) are conducting a joint operation with their Czech counterpart unit, Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov informs Monday.
The operation, codenamed "The Europeans," aims at criminals using skimming devices to drain bank accounts. They have mounted cameras at ATMs to take pictures of all people who have been withdrawing money from their bank accounts.
The perps have been acting in the Czech capital Prague and the joint police work had been going on for the last two years. GDBOP is currently searching 25 addresses in the cities of Sofia, Varna Ruse, and Silistra.
"There are 8 European warrants for the criminal activities of people from Silistra, related to ATM draining with the use of fake credit cards. The police searches of some of the Bulgarian locations discovered micro-cameras, skimming devices, a gas pistol, and cocaine," Tsvetanov reported.
