Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
Bulgarian Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, reiterated Wednesday he has no intentions of resigning despite his brand new responsibilities.
On Tuesday, the Minister became the proud father of a baby daughter, the third in the family, and was appointed head of the election campaign headquarters of his ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party.
Before the beginning of the Council of Ministers meeting, Tsvetanov told reporters rumors and insinuations he would quit as Interior Minister in order to dedicate his full attention to the family and the election campaign are not serious enough for him to answer any related questions.
"My top daily items on the agenda include special police operations, all matters related to the Penal Code, and of course, raising my girls – things normal for an average family. My election campaign commitment is nothing new; I have taken major part in all previous ones," Tsvetanov pointed out.
The Minister explained the appointment of the Head of the new Center for Combatting Corruption (BORKOR) was forthcoming. Earlier Wednesday, Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, announced in a TV interview, the person in question will be the Secretary of the Security Council at the Council of Ministers, Rumen Milanov, while former Director of the State Agency for National Security, DANS, under the term of the previous, Socialist-led cabinet, Petko Sertov, will be Milanov's assistant.
The new unit will deal with discovering and countering cases of corruption at all levels of local, executive and legislative power, Tsvetanov explained, adding BORKOR would not be a double of DANS and is using a German model with the help of German experts.
The Minister reminded the Center is a structure affiliated with the Council of Ministers and its director will be appointed by the PM. BORKOR will deal with everything involving corruption in order to eradicate it from Bulgarian society.
