Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has set up a committee, which would be responsible for making amendments to the constitution, the country's Vice President Omar Suleiman announced.

"The president also tasked the prime minister with forming a "follow up committee" to implement the decisions taken by parties to the national dialogue," Suleiman said Tuesday in a TV statement, as cited by Economic Times.

Both committees will start operating on Tuesday, the vice president said and added that there is a plan and a timetable for the peaceful transfer of power in Egypt, which has been shaken by two-week protests, demanding resignation of the president, who ruled for 30 years.

Suleiman also stated that the government will start a probe into the clashes in Cairo's Tahrir Square last week between anti- and pro-government protesters.

In the meantime, thousands of Egyptians are prepared to continue their protests on Tuesday. Spending the night on Tahrir Square, surrounded by army tanks, they remain determined to press on with their campaign for immediate removal of Mubarak.

The president has insisted to serve the remainder of his term, which expires in September, and has promised to not run for president in the elections.
