The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) begins an audit on Bulgaria's Kozloduy nuclear power plant on Monday.

The check, which will continue until February 11, will focus on Unit 5 and 6 of the plant.

The last WANO audit in Bulgaria was in June 2009, following an invitation by the management of Kozloduy power plant.

The new inspection aims at defining the strengths and good practices of the plant, as well as the areas which could be improved for enhancing safety and reliability of Unit 5 and 6, which have a total capacity of 2,000 MW.

The WANO team includes five experts, who participated in the 2009 audit. They will examine key areas in the activity of the units and will asses the implementation of the recommendations and the progress of the plant since the last check.

The areas to be examined are Organization and Administration, Exploitation, Repair, Engineering Insurance, Operating Experience, Radiation Protection and Chemistry.

According to WANO rules, the audit results will be concluded in a confidential report, which would be accessible only by the management of Kozloduy nuclear power plant.
