Leaders of Egypt's civil protests against President Hosni Mubarak have met with the country's Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq discussing ways to ease Mubarak out of office.
Abdel-Rahman Youssef, a youth activist, says he and other protest figures met with Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq late Friday, international media reported.
The meeting focused solely on the topic of finding the best way to get Mubarak to step down.
After 12 days of massive and often violent protests, Mubarak still clings to serving his term until the presidential elections in September 2011, his major concession to the protesters so far being that he would not seek reelection after 30 years in power.
The protest leaders have confirmed their determination to organize rallies until Mubarak steps down. One possible formula is to have Mubarak delegate his powers to Vice President Omar Suleiman.
Suleiman, Mubarak's first Vice President since he took over Egypt in 1981, and Shafiq were appointed by the President last Saturday as he removed the previous Cabinet.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, President Hosni Mubarak brought together his economic team over measures to alleviate the consequences for the global economy from the civil unrest in Egypt.
Estimates show Egypt has lost more than USD 3-4 B in the 12 days of protests so far.
