One person died and 10 were seriously injured in a head-on collision in western Bulgaria, the police inform Saturday.

The accident happened on the E-79 road near the village of Dyakovo.

All were initially taken to the Emergency Room in the nearby town of Dupnitsa. Five, including two children, were later transferred to the "Pirogov" emergency hospital in Sofia.

A 1.5-year-old girl is listed with a head trauma, while her 3-year-old brother is in stable condition. The father, 27, has been treated for head injuries and released; the mother is listed with a pelvis fracture. The fifth person is a 22-year-old woman with concussion.

The police say the collision between the "Renault" and the "Mazda" happened on a section of the road where traffic is directed by the police since it runs in a single lane.
