Bulgaria's National Veterinary Service receives an additional BGN 1.5 M to restrict and extinguish the spread of the foot-and-mouth-disease (FMD), the cabinet's press center announces Thursday.

The funds will be slated mostly for the Burgas Region because domestic animals in two villages there were euthanized after tests proved positive for FMD. The regions of Yambol, Haskovo, Shumen, Varna, Kardzhali, and Sliven are to receive part of the funds over the increased threat of the spread of the disease there.

In addition, over BGN half million will be paid in compensations to farmers who suffered losses of animals, fodder and equipment.

Part of the funds would further go for fuels, overtime of workers, building and repairs of disinfection stations, consumables, tests and others.

The money is to guarantee the animals' health and the safety of animal food products.
