The latest series of recordings, involving Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov and the Director of the Customs Agency, Vanyo Tanov, expectedly, stirred opposite reactions from Bulgaria's political spectrum.

The leader of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and former PM, Sergey Stanishev, stated "no one in their right mind doubts the tapes' content authenticity" and appealed for a prosecutor's probe.

According to Stanishev, the conversations are stark proof of the murky methods of ruling the country and the huge discrepancy between the principles of transparency declared by the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party and the things that are "happening behind the curtain."

The opposition leader is convinced Tanov had been probed despite claims he was spied on as part of an investigation of other individuals. The probe stems from the Customs Agency Head's conflict with Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Stanishev insists, adding the revelations of the former employee of the State Agency for National Security (DANS), Rosen Milenov, were another proof for that.

The BSP leader further demanded that Milenov appears before the Parliamentary Committee overseeing DANS, and warned of a looming political crisis since Bulgarians have lost trust in all State institutions over the scandal.

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament from GERB, Anastas Anastasov, countered the leaked tapes were a slander war against the cabinet in the light of the upcoming presidential and local elections.

The leader of the right-wing Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) and co-Chair of the Blue Coalition, Martin Dimitrov, appealed to Borisov to come forward and admit the truth about the authenticity or manipulation of the tapes .

"The PM must answer this question in a convincing way, otherwise he will be left "hanging in space." See, precisely for this reason we advised the Interior Minister to refrain from mass eavesdropping; this already turned against him; look at the calamities that already happened," Dimitrov is quoted saying.

The right-wing leader reiterated what many have already said – the Prosecutor's findings the tapes are not original, but rerecorded do not equal manipulation of their content.
