Low-cost British air carrier easyJet will suspend its flights from the Bulgarian capital Sofia to Madrid as of March 10, just two months after ceasing the route to Milan, according to the company's site.

A representative of the British no-frills company cited the increased opportunities for growth and expansion on other markets as the reason for this decision.

"We will ground Sofia-Madrid flights at the end of the winter schedule because we are moving on to other European markets, which offer at the moment better opportunities for the growth and expansion of our operations," Peter Voets, Marketing Director at easyJet for Switzerland, Austria and Eastern Europe, told Dnevnik daily.

The low-cost air carrier will not discontinue its flights from Sofia to London and Manchester.

The airline will service three, not two flights to Manchester as of February 17. The company will however scale down its flights for London and will serve them every day of the week, except for Friday.

EasyJet, which is considered to be the second-biggest low fare airline company after Ryanair, stepped on the Bulgarian market in November 2007 with low-cost flights to London Gatwick three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

easyJet started its regular Sofia-Milan flights October 2008. The planes used to arrive at the Milan airport Malpensa.
