Bulgaria and Romania have invested a lot of efforts and are doing a great job in fulfilling the requirements for Schengen entry, according to Hungarian ambassador to Sofia Judith Lang.

Lang, whose country took the rotating EU Presidency start of 2011, said the goal of the Hungarian Presidency is that a political decision on when Bulgaria and Romania will enter Schengen be taken by the end of the Presidency's term, i.e. by June 2011.

The initial plan was for a Schengen entry by March 2011, but in December 2010 both France and Germany voiced strong misgivings about the prospects of the two newcomers joining so soon.

Speaking in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio Saturday, ambassador Lang said that there is a need to stop guessing at the date and keep up the good work the two countries are doing.

She added that the Hungarian EU Presidency will give the two countries its full support in their efforts.

Among the other priorities of the Hungarian Presidency, Lang pointed out enlargement and Roma integration.

An ambition of the Presidency is for accession talks with Croatia to be finished within the half year. Another goal is the creation of a common European framework for Roma integration programs.

Ambassador Lang stressed that a key priority for the Presidency is also economic recovery and consolitation with the help of creative and innovative strategies within capitalism.
