In 2011, Bulgaria’s Labor Ministry will have about BGN 73 M for programs for subsidized employment, which will provide work for 34,600 people, according to the National action plan on employment.

The action plan is expected to be approved by the parliament on Thursday. Its main focus is set to be on young people up to 29 years, people with disabilities, and adults close to retirement age, which experience the most difficulties when finding jobs.

The new thing in the plan is the program to subsidize jobs in ecologically clean enterprises. The budget for this program will be BGN 3,1 M. It will be spent on paying minimum salaries (BGN 240) to employed people for six months.

According to the Bulgarian Labor Minister, Totyu Mladenov, the goal of the program is to encourage the business to invest in environmentally friendly productions.

Funds will be provided to employers who open job positions that are environmentally friendly in activities related to peat extraction, production of electric motors, rechargeable batteries, wood products and paper packaging.

The plan also envisions extending the program “Start a career”, which gives opportunities to young people with higher education but without experience to work in the public or private sector.

In 2010, the Labor Ministry provided work for 1,000 young people under the program.
