Bulgaria Records 5,389 Traffic Accidents This Year, Resulting in 334 Deaths
Since the beginning of the year, Bulgaria has witnessed a staggering 5,389 traffic accidents, resulting in 334 fatalities and 6,794 injuries
Snowfall has been causing traffic accidents and distruptions all over Bulgaria Thursday and problems are continuing Thursday night.
The situation is reported to be expecially grave in Eastern Bulgaria, where due to heavy snowfall and ice some roads have been closed.
Ice is reported in the south-eastern sections of Trakiya highway. Ice on the roads is expected overnight across all of southeastern Bulgaria.
Heavy quantities of snow have also fallen in the north-eastern parts of the country, impeding the traffic in sectors such as the Petrohan pass.
The traffic in the capital Sofia is exceedingly heavy and jammed by winter conditions.
Authorities have asked citizens to refrain from traveling by car, except when absolutely necessary.
At present, no towns or villages have cut off communications because of snow or outages of electricity or water.
