Bulgarian filmmakers are staging yet another protest rally Tuesday they label as "happening" and dedicate to their "favorite" Culture Minister, Vezhi Rashidov, whose birthday is December 14.
The march starts at the Culture Ministry and ends in front of the Council of Ministers building in downtown Sofia.
"Our "beloved" Minister has a birthday. Let us offer him the best gift. And not just one gift, but many, since we love him so much, so friends, bring gifts," the facebook page of the organizers reads.
The film industry activists are demanding once again to get clarifications on how exactly movie making will be financed in Bulgaria. Budget 2011, which was passed by the Parliament last week, provides for subsidies only "if there are resources."
On Saturday, Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, actually, fired Dereliev, saying he created a mess and triggered tensions among film workers. Borisov further said he would not appoint a replacement for Dereliev.
The Ministry of Culture has been recently involved in a string of controversial events, including questions about the degree of support for the movie "Goodbye Mamma" by Bulgarian-Italian actor and director Michelle Bonev, which received a fabricated award at the Venice Film Festival and stirred a true media and political scandal in Italy..
