Bulgaria's Construction Production Rises, Yet Building Construction Falls

Bulgarian specialists in the field of geotechnical and tunnel construction have established a specialized association in Sofia.
The new Bulgarian Association for Geotechnical and Tunnel Construction (BAGTC) unites the top Bulgarian experts in the field.
The leading participants in the founding of the new organization include Prof. Bozhidar Bozhinov, honorary chair, and a professor at the Sofia University of Mining and Geology, a major specialists on geotechnical facilities, and Prof. Viktor Tashev, a professor at the Sofia University for Architecture, Construction, and Geodesy, one of the most successful Bulgarian tunnel engineers.
"The major goal of the newly founded Bulgarian Association for Geotechnical and Tunnel Construction is the studying and promotion of global experience in this field in order to provide for adequate reaction with respect to the upcoming construction of massive technical infrastructure projects in Bulgaria," explained Valentin Trashliev, chair of the BAGTC.
"The creation of a national association for geotechnical and tunnel construction is on time, it is actually even a bit belated since all advance countries have similar organizations. This association is expected to unite the forces and professionalism of researchers, engineers, and builders in order to discover new opportunities for the introduction of new technologies for construction, environmental protection, and socially responsible projects," said in turn Prof. Bozhidar Bozhinov.
"Through this newly created structure we will transfer our knowledge and experience to the new generation of specialists, and will facilitate a constant link between the business sector and the academia," Prof. Tashev commented.
The BAGTC also vows to focus on international cooperation and introducing new good practices and social initiatives such as creating an information system about the job opportunities offered in Bulgaria in this field.
