Bulgaria: Macedonia to Take Care of Bulgarian Monuments Bulgarian MEP Evgeni Kirilov's amendment was adopted

An amendment was adopted by the EU-Macedonian Joint Parliamentary Committee to the protection and maintenance of Bulgarian monuments and graves on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia.

The amendment concerns the obligation of the Republic of Macedonia to reconstruct and maintain all foreign military graves on its territory.

It was made by the Bulgarian MEP Evgeni Kirilov from the Party of European Socialists during the EU-Macedonian Joint Parliamentary Committee's meeting on Tuesday.

Some 20 000 Bulgarian soldiers rest under Macedonian soil and their graves and monuments are in a wretched condition, Evgeni Kirilov underlined. He pointed out that no other country has such problems with their military graves in Macedonia.

He expressed his hope that Macedonia will show good will for solving the issue.

Meanwhile, EU will once again "encourage governments of Macedonia and Greece to intensify UN-led talks aimed at finding solution to the name row."
