One of the rescued sailors from the Monday collision between the two ships in Black Sea near the Emine Cape has been hospitalized in the city of Burgas, Bulgaria's Darik News informed.

The sailor is a 34-year-old engineer, a Syrian citizen. He has fallen in the water when the Karim 1 cargo ship sank and has stayed in the water for three hours. He was rescued by the teams of the Bulgarian Border Police.

The man is currently in the Urology department of the hospital and is diagnosed with post-drowning symptoms and commotion. He has underwent scanner, ultrasound and chest X-ray tests.

At the moment the sailor is fully adequate and does not have any abnormalities. He will remain in the hospital until his condition stable.

The Syrian told the doctors that he remembers the incident. In his words, the collision happened for minutes and the ship sank almost immediately, together with the whole crew.

The man also said he swam for about three hours before being noticed by the Bulgarian rescue teams.

The collision is believed to have been the result of incorrect manoeuvres, according to Sergey Tsarnakliyski, Director of the Bulgarian Maritime Administration. The two ships clashed at about 5:40 pm local time.

The Karim 1 cargo ship, carrying scrap, and sailing under the Sierra Leone flag sank. There are minor damages to the other vessel, a much larger Dutch oil tanker "Alessandro DP." There were initial fears of a large oil spill, but the tanker was empty.

The Bulgarian Civil Protection Agency, Border Police and two cargo vessels that were nearby, staged a rescue operation saving five of the ten crew members of the Karim 1 ship.

Two of the five sailors that are still missing are believe to have died, according to witnesses.
