Almost EUR 86,000 have been seized during the second round of the police operation, codenamed "The Plastics," in the region of the Bulgarian town of Kazanlak.
The police detained the girlfriend and nephew of 38-year-old Hranimir Ivanov, who was one of the members of an organized group that was busted on November 18. The gang specialized in withdrawing cash from ATMs in different EU countries using plastic slabs and skimming devices.
On Friday, the police noticed an automobile in front of Ivanov's house. After a check, the policemen found a bah with EUR 85,850 in the trunk of the car.
The owner of the car, which was the 30-year-old girlfriend of Ivanov, and his nephew, who was with the women, were detained for 24 hours. The police found out that the money belonged to Ivanov and were hidden in his house.
This week, the Appellate Court in the city of Plovdiv confirmed that Ivan Petrov, Angel Kaychev, Hranimir Ivanov and Yoan Valkanov, who were detained during "The Plastics" police operation, will remain under arrest.
