Popular Bulgarian actor Andrey Batashov is sedated in an artificial coma and is under mechanical ventilation in the ER, officials from the hospital have announced.
The Bulgarian daily "24 Chasa" (24 Hours) has informed that doctors had stated that the best solution would be for Batashov to undergo a liver transplant. However, they added that his condition did not allow the procedure because his internal organs have almost completely collapsed.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the actor had been hospitalized since Saturday. Hours later, it was announced that he was in a coma.
Various reports in Bulgarian media stated different versions of the reason for his hospitalization.
Teodora Batashova, the actor's mother, made an official statement on Wednesday, thanking the hospital team for doing the best they could for her only son and asking journalist for tolerance.
His mother is Batashov's only relative. He was married for a year to his wife, Boryana. The two separated at the end of last year. A few months ago, Batashov filed for divorce.
"Boryana is his ex wife, who will have her five minutes of fame at this difficult moment for Andrey," a friend of the actor said, as cited by 24 Chasa, commenting on a TV interview with Boryana.
Besides actor, Batashov is also teaching in the Bulgarian National Academy for Theater and Film Arts. He is most popular for his one-person show "Sex, Drugs and Rock'n'Roll," which he staged more than 500 times.
The actor was also an MP from the centrist National Movement for Stability and Prosperity (NDSV) in the previous government.
