No party will be established today, Kostadin Paskalev, organizer of the forum "Bulgaria – on the next day," announced Thursday.

The forum, organized by an action group, has begun at the National Palace of Culture. Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov, who was officially presented as a guest, is the founder of the project ABV that is to be discussed at the forum.

The political project's name is Alternative for Bulgarian Revival, The Bulgarian acronym being ABV (the first three letters of the Bulgarian alphabet).

"The key word for today is alternative," Paskalev said, adding that they will not establish a political party.

The action group includes Borislav Kitov, Vice President of the Bulgarian Agrarian National Union and a former MP, Prof. Grigor Gorchev, President of the Medical University in the city of Pleven, Prof. Vasil Prodanov, Director of the Philosophical Research Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Emil Kalo, former chairman of the Organization of the Jews in Bulgaria Shalom, Miho Mihov, former Chair of Staff at the Army, former adviser to the president on military security in the country, former ambassador to Macedonia, Krasimir Petrov, former director of the General Directorate Border Police and a former head of the Special Anti-Terrorist Task Force (SOBT) and director of the Sofia Directorate of the Interior (SDVR), the athletes Yordan Yovchev and Valentin Yordanov and Mariana Todorova, expert in the President's administration.

Among the participants in the forum are also Stefan Danailov, Vesela Lecheva, the MEP Ivaylo Kalfin, the archaeologist Nikolay Ovcharov, the singer Nikolina Chakardakova, Stoyan Topalov, Petar Velchev, Todor Atanasov and Stefan Dimitrov.

The second term of the President Georgi Parvanov expires next year and he does not have the right to run for a third term.

Observers have commented that Bulgaria's president is obviously laying the foundations of a new political movement, which will counterbalance the conservative government and will allow him to continue to wield his influence even after he leaves the office of the highest state post next year.

Parvanov is one of the most loved politicians in the country, but he is also very controversial, as he has worked for the secret services during the communist regime and is believed to have contacts with people linked to the underworld.
